The D. Bauries Original Yellow Flyer - 3/7/06

Next Tuesday, March 14th, eight towns in the Monadnock Regional School District will vote on the Operating Budget and numerous warrant articles... Over the past four years The Monadnock School Tax Association has published a yellow sheet with our recommendations and a short explanation of why the Monadnock School Tax Association (MSTA) took the position for your consideration.

A mean-spirited group has now tried to steal our name and confuse the voters. This attempt may be in violation of New Hampshire law and the election laws. If the last line on the right does not have my name D. Bauries; then you do not have this original Tax Payers flyer for this year.

Our tax group consists of highly educated people such as College Professors, Teachers, Investment and Merchant Bankers, Selectmen, Real Estate Professionals, Manufacturing Supervisors, School Board members and School Budget Committee members. They collectively combed the district's operating budget and discussed the impact of the warrant articles to recommend to you what is on this year's yellow sheet. Our goal was to balance an excellent education with the taxpayer's ability to pay, taking into account the other tax impacts of local, county and state, which you will also pay next December as part of your tax bill.

It is unfortunate that all though the Monadnock School Board keeps saying they want the voter to trust them, just the opposite is happening. The only thing accomplished by the school board at the deliberative session was to eliminate choice for the voters. There was no action there to garnish trust. The school budget committee recommended for the operating budget, (a 5.1% increase over last year's spending), with a default budget of 6.3% .These were the two choices. You must remember, the operating budget does not include any other warrant articles including but not limited to teacher increases, and support staff salaries that must be funded over and above the operating budget... However, the school board, at the deliberative session, raised the operating budget from 5.1% to 6.7%, an increase of $440,000., which effectively eliminated any choice.

I would like to thank the four school board members that voted with the budget committee's 5.1% increase.

The MSTA has saved the district close to $40 million dollars over the last four years, in school district debt thru warrant articles that were not recommended by MSTA, and not accepted by the voters. The $28 million dollar high school, the 22 classroom addition and the Honeywell fiasco along with many other SAU and district policies, would have added to your school tax burden.

The vote on March 14th is so important to us all. The school district budget and warrant articles could be as high as $7.5 million dollars over the next 36 months, if allowed. What will your property taxes be then? Remember, if D. Bauries is not on the last printed line on the yellow sheet, it is not the REAL Monadnock School Tax Association flier.

Thank you for your interest and consideration, and please support with your vote the recommendation of the MSTA candidates for school board and budget committee. They all would work for your best interests.
